Trans-Age Inter-Generational Volunteering Project

The Trans-Age project is affiliated to the Partnership with Older people (POP) and based in the Harrow Association of Voluntary Service.

Trans-Age is an exciting intergenerational volunteering opportunity to bring the skills of a lifetime to a generation that could do with help from their older friends. The project is aimed at anyone aged 50+ with free time during Monday-Friday to give to the project.

If you have recently retired or are looking for a new interest, this project could be for you. Offering skills, such as art & crafts, sewing, cooking, computer expertise, languages or any other skill that you possess which would benefit children at school today. You could also help groups of children with reading, writing or numeracy skills.

You will be provided with full support and training and will benefit from meeting with your fellow volunteers and from the knowledge that you are doing a worthwhile job and contributing to the community.

Why do we need Trans-Age?

It is important for children to develop relationships with older people, as both have so much to offer each other.

Many children today lack the care and attention required to develop into self-sufficient adults. Changes in our society often leave families bewildered and struggling with difficulties but without the traditional extended family to support them.

Older and younger people have never been so segregated, with few opportunities for contact. This lack of contact allows each generation to see itself as separate rather than part of one large community.

This is what the Trans-Age Project is aiming to address.

Points you need to consider

It has been proved that there is no age barrier to making a varied and valuable contribution to the community in which we live.
