Two of our community groups are engaged in an environmental project working with London 21, Agenda 21 and the local Green party candidate. This is a project that helps Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities to take an active part in promoting ecologically sound living. The aims of the project are:
Both the groups are enthusiastic and have very interesting ideas about growing herbs and plants such as ginger, garlic, neem, coriander, okra, star-anise etc. to use as home remedies instead of the many chemical combinations commonly used.
It was an eye-opener to one group to learn about the harmful effects of common cleaning materials and discussing ways of going greener proved very enlightening.
Both groups have applied for funding for start-up costs and one group has been allocated a spot in the West Harrow allotments. Lots to look forward to in the spring!
